Introduction to Human Training for Gifted Miniature Pinschers:

Please note: No humans were harmed during the making of this document.

Min Pin, now you are saying to yourself,  “O.K. so here I am, a 8 week old Miniature Pinscher, with all my intelligence, good looks, and charms etc., stuck with this big lump of a human. How the heck am I going to train them right? “

Relax Min Pin! It’s going to be O.K. We have got the answers for you. It won’t be as hard as you think. It might take a bit of time away from your favorite chew toy, but trust me, the end results will be worth it.

First of all you will have to break down their lessons into a bunch of small steps that Humans can easily understand. Use several short training sessions a day and concentrate on just doing one thing until they get it right. You will know when they are starting to catch on just by the tone of their voices. Try it, just do what they think they are trying to get YOU to do. Listen to the happiness and praise that they heap on you.

Next we will cover getting you outside on time, (THEY call it Potty training), but trust me you won’t see any pots! We both know that Min Pins are creatures of habit. You should start by letting them know that you want to go outside.

a)      After your nap – when you get up and start nosing around the floor, should give them a hint that it is time.

b)      After a big meal – Get them to watch you 5-10 minutes after you have eaten.

c)      Scratch at the door and whine. Eventually they will clue in. You might have to repeat this one a few times before they catch on though.

For you inside types, remind them to put down papers where they should be placed (paper training). Get them to praise you excessively, when you do the right thing.

For you real Prima Donna type Miniature Pinschers, set up training sessions with your Humans with a litter box of your very own. This usually takes more time than the paper training.

In later lessons, we will cover how to get them to feed you what a young growing Min Pin puppy wants and needs, plus we will have a few words about the stuff you should keep away from if you want to KEEP  being a “growing miniature pinscher”.

And, we will get into a whole bunch of other stuff that your Human is just going to have to be taught. Remember, this is for their own good, train them right and you will have years of  great companionship, so be gentle but firm.

Now I know most of you are not neurotic, but there have been some rumors flying around (spread by those vicious schnauzers, I’ll bet), about some Min Pins having a problem with excessive licking. Well we’ll soon put a rest to that!

Let your human know that there are basically two reasons you might be overly licking yourself.

The first is that you are hurt and are trying to keep the wound clean. Get them to check the area that you are licking carefully, it might save you a trip to the Vet.

The second reason is that you are just plain bored. This is their fault entirely. They have been too stingy to get you some interesting toys to play with. That brings us to the next section.

This is the real fun section of this manual that you can use to get the “fun toys” that you can play with, without worrying that you will choke on some stupid squeaky thing that someone has hid inside it because they thought it was “cute’ when it made noises.

As they say in the movies  - To be continued….. maybe......??
